(God) has saved us and called us with a holy calling…according to His own purpose. (2 Timothy 1:9)
Knowing the will of God involves knowing the call of God on our lives. Without knowing and embracing the call of God upon our lives we can spend our short journey here on earth drifting with the tides, never realizing God’s plan and purpose for us individually. [Read more]

“The Will of God Part 2″
January 18, 2011
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God…(1 Corinthians 1:1)
In our last installment we addressed the question ‘what is the doing of the Lord’s will?’ Purposefully, I extracted from the New Testament only those verses that implicitly state God’s will for us as Christians. But when most people ask about God’s will for their lives, they are really asking how can I know what God has for me to do? Or, how can I know if I should or shouldn’t do this certain thing? “The Will of God”
January 10, 2011
For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mark 3:35)
Several weeks ago I found a handwritten note on my desk that read “would you please consider teaching and making God’s people aware of what the ‘doing of the Lord’s will’ is?”
The question somewhat puzzled me since our church makes teaching the Bible verse by verse the central focus in our ministry specifically to give people all of God’s will for their lives. But the note was written anonymously and there was no way I could make further inquiry, and, even though we do indeed teach the whole counsel of God I realize many ask themselves the same question.
Romans 12:2 states, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
So, what does the New Testament say about God’s will for us?
It may not be as involved you think.
If a person has not been born again…
It is His will that they be saved:
• ”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
• “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”(2 Corinthians 5:21)
• “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
• “(Jesus Christ) gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.” (Galatians 1:4)
• “The Lord is…not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Once one becomes a believer…
It is His will that believers give thanks in all things:
• “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
It is His will that believers–sometimes–suffer:
• “Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing, as to a faithful Creator.” (1Peter 4:19)
• “Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.” (1Peter 4:1-2)
It is His will that believers be sexually pure:
• “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.” (1 Thessalonians 5:4)
It is his will that believers submit themselves to those in authority over them:
• “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.” (1 Peter 2:13-15)
Doing His will proves one is a believer…
• John 14:15 Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
• By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey His command.” (1 John 5:2)
• “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17)
