How it all started...
Parkland Chapel is a direct outreach of Maranatha Chapel in San Diego, California, a non-denominational church associated with the Calvary Chapel movement. With a desire to see people come to know Jesus and grow in His Word, Parkland Chapel began in June 2005 in Pastor Mike Harrison's basement with just twelve people assembled together. As God continued to bring people, the church outgrew the basement and began meeting in a rented room at The Factory before moving into its current location in 2006. Since then, our buildings have been joined together into one, we've added more parking, and we've built an outdoor covered meeting space. In the summer of 2021, we built a new sanctuary to accommodate our growing family. Fast forward four years to 2025, and we added The Hub - a new multipurpose space that accommodates growing ministries.
Since our planting, we have believed that believers should not only assemble, but also be sent out. That conviction has led us to plant other churches, including Arcadia Valley Chapel in Ironton, Missouri, in 2013 through one of our former youth pastors, and Woodlawn Chapel in Charleston, Illinois, in 2020.
What started as twelve attendees has turned into abundant growth, where God is continuing to change and grow our family. At every point in our story, we see God’s grace and provision written all over it. As our story continues, we praise God for everything that He has done and is doing.
What began with twelve people meeting in a basement has become a thriving church family, and we know the story isn't about buildings or numbers. It's about God's faithfulness. Every chapter reflects His grace, His provision, and His work in changing lives. As He continues to write our story, our commitment remains the same as it was from the beginning: faithfully teaching the whole Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, and book by book, trusting Him to transform lives through His truth.
